Random Phone Number Generator
Generate random phone numbers for the USA, UK and Canada in national or international format. Use fictional mode for safe test data, or valid format mode when you need numbers that pass real validation rules.
Numbers are generated in your browser and are never stored or sent anywhere.
How the generator works
Each country has its own numbering plan, and the generator follows it so the output looks and validates like a real number.
- USA and Canada share the North American Numbering Plan: a 3-digit area code, a 3-digit exchange and a 4-digit line number, as in (212) 555-0143. Neither the area code nor the exchange can start with 0 or 1, and codes like 911 or 411 are skipped.
- United Kingdom mobile numbers are 11 digits starting with 07, as in 07700 900123. In international format the leading 0 is dropped: +44 7700 900123.
Fictional vs valid-format numbers
| Mode | Ranges used | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Fictional | 555-0100 to 555-0199 (US/Canada), 07700 900000 to 900999 and 020 7946 0000 to 0999 (UK) | Test data, mock-ups, screenshots, films and games. Reserved, so no one owns them. |
| Valid format | Any number allowed by the numbering plan | Testing validation libraries such as libphonenumber. May reach real subscribers. |
Why a random number will not verify an account
Sign-up forms send a one-time code by SMS. With a random number, that code goes to whoever owns the line, or nowhere. To get past phone verification you need a number whose messages you can read:
- Free phone numbers: public inboxes for USA, UK and Canada. Anyone can see the messages, so they suit quick tests only.
- Temporary phone numbers: a private number for one code, charged only if the SMS arrives.
- Receive SMS online: rentals that keep the same number for days or weeks.

Frequently asked questions
Are the generated phone numbers real?
In "valid format" mode the numbers follow the real numbering rules, so some of them may be assigned to real people. Do not call or text them. In "fictional" mode you only get numbers from ranges reserved for films, TV and testing (555-0100 to 555-0199 in North America, 07700 900xxx and 020 7946 0xxx in the UK), which are never given to subscribers.
Can I use a random phone number to receive a verification code?
No. A generated number is just digits: you cannot read SMS sent to it, and a code sent there would go to whoever owns the line, or nowhere. To receive a code, use a number you can actually read, such as a free public number or a private virtual number from SMS Pin Verify.
What is a fake phone number for testing?
Developers use fictional numbers to fill forms, seed databases and test input validation without contacting anyone. Use the fictional mode of this generator for that, since those ranges are reserved and safe.
How do I generate a phone number with a specific area code?
Pick the country, then choose an area code from the list (for example 212 for New York or 416 for Toronto). Every number generated will use that area code. Leave it on "Any" for a random area code.
What format are the numbers in?
You can choose national format, such as (212) 555-0143 or 07700 900123, international E.164 format, such as +12125550143, which is what most APIs and databases expect, or plain digits.
