How receiving SMS online works
Each private number is tied to one service and belongs to you until the code arrives or the number expires 15 minutes later. You are charged only when a code arrives, so a number that never gets one costs nothing.

There are two ways to receive SMS online here, and they suit different jobs.

If you only need to see whether a site sends a code, browse the free numbers. For anything else, use a private number: it has not been used on that service before, so the code actually arrives.
Why codes fail on other receive-SMS sites
Most free receive-SMS sites recycle the same few dozen numbers. Big apps notice a number that has signed up hundreds of accounts and stop sending codes to it. Many of those numbers are also VoIP lines, which banks and payment apps refuse outright. Both problems go away with a fresh non-VoIP number used once per service.

Frequently asked questions
Is receiving SMS online free?
Our free numbers are free and need no account, but they are public: anyone can read the messages and most big apps have already blocked them. A private number costs from $0.10 and only you see its messages.
How fast does the code arrive?
Usually within 5 to 30 seconds of the app sending it. The code appears on your dashboard automatically; you do not need to refresh.
What happens if no code arrives?
You are charged only when a code arrives. If the service never sends one, the number expires and your balance is not touched. Request a new number and try again.
Which countries can I receive SMS from?
USA numbers cover the most services. UK, Canada and Hong Kong numbers are also available, plus USA rental numbers you keep for several days.
Can I receive SMS through an API?
Yes. The REST API lets you request a number and poll for the code, with the same prices as the website. See the API guide for the endpoints.
