LinkedIn Verification Code Not Received? 7 Fixes That Work

Posted on 01/11/26 02:46 am

LinkedIn code not arriving? It may go to your email, not your phone. Check both, then resend once. 7 fixes, plus two-step verification tips.

LinkedIn asks for a code when you sign in from a new device, add a phone number, or have two-step verification on. Security-check codes often go to your email; two-step codes go to your phone or authenticator app.

Check these first (30 seconds)

  • Email first. A "quick security check" code usually goes to your primary email.
  • Spam folder. Search for "LinkedIn" in spam and promotions.
  • Two-step method. If you use an authenticator app, the code is there.
  • Phone number. For text codes, check the number in Settings → Sign in & security.

What LinkedIn's message means

What you seeWhat it meansWhat to do
"Let's do a quick security check"New device or location.Look in your email for the code.
Two-step code by text never arrivesSlow delivery, filtered texts, or an old number.Resend once, or use a backup method.
"Too many attempts"Rate limit.Wait, then try once.
"We couldn't verify the code"Old or mistyped code.Use the newest code.
Lost the phone for two-stepNo access to your codes.Use a recovery code, or LinkedIn Help to verify your identity.

7 fixes, in order

  1. Check your email. Most security-check codes go to the primary email on the account.
  2. Resend once. Wait a minute, then request one new code.
  3. Use your authenticator app. If two-step is set up with an app, open it.
  4. Turn off SMS filters. Pause spam filters and blockers.
  5. Use a recovery code. Saved when you turned on two-step verification.
  6. Wait out a limit. After "too many attempts", wait a few hours.
  7. Contact LinkedIn Help. If you lost both email and phone, LinkedIn can verify your identity.

Email or phone?

LinkedIn treats your email as the main identity. Phone numbers are optional and used for two-step verification and account recovery.

For two-step verification, an authenticator app is the most reliable: it works without signal and when you travel.

When your own number just won't work

If text codes from LinkedIn never arrive, another mobile number can receive them.

In that case a non-VoIP number is the practical fix. These are real mobile-carrier numbers, which is what LinkedIn expects. On SMS Pin Verify you can pick a USA number for LinkedIn and the code appears on screen in your account:

  • One-time number: held for you for 15 minutes to receive one code. If no code arrives, you are not charged. Good for a single sign-up.
  • Rental number: the same number for several days or longer. Pick this if the number will be your two-step method, because LinkedIn texts it at every new sign-in.

Two honest limits: a code is never guaranteed, because LinkedIn decides whether to send it; and a number may have been used on LinkedIn before you, so start a fresh account rather than trying to recover an old one.

Keep your account after you get in

  • Keep two emails on the account so you can recover it.
  • Turn on two-step with an authenticator app and save recovery codes.
  • Remove old phone numbers from Settings → Sign in & security.
  • Never share a LinkedIn code. Recruiters never need it.
