OfferUp Verification Code Not Received? 7 Fixes That Work

Posted on 01/11/26 03:49 am

OfferUp code not arriving? Check the number, wait before asking again, and look in filtered texts. 7 fixes for confirming your phone on OfferUp.

OfferUp asks you to confirm a phone number to post, message and earn trust badges, and may send a code when you log in on a new device. Here is what to try when the text does not show up.

Check these first (30 seconds)

  • A US mobile number. OfferUp works in the US; enter a 10-digit number.
  • Spam and filtered texts. Check spam or "unknown senders".
  • The wait. Give it a minute or two.
  • Email login. You can sign in with your email instead.

  4. Update the app. Install the latest OfferUp.
  5. Sign in with email. If your account has one.
  6. Wait out a limit. After "too many attempts".
  7. Contact OfferUp. Use Help in the app.

Why OfferUp wants your number

A confirmed phone number is one of the trust signals on your profile. Buyers and sellers do not see it; messages stay in the app.

Because OfferUp keeps the number on file and may send codes to it again, choose one you will keep.

TruYou is a different check

OfferUp's TruYou badge is an identity check with a photo ID and a selfie. It is separate from the phone code: a confirmed phone number does not give you TruYou, and TruYou does not replace the number.

If a buyer says you must "verify on OfferUp" by sending them a code from a text, stop. OfferUp never needs another user to see your code.

When your own number just won't work

If OfferUp texts never reach your number, another mobile number can receive the code.

In that case a non-VoIP number is the practical fix. These are real mobile-carrier numbers, which is what OfferUp expects. On SMS Pin Verify you can pick a USA number for OfferUp and the code appears on screen in your account:

  • One-time number: held for you for 15 minutes to receive one code. If no code arrives, you are not charged. Good for a single sign-up.
  • Rental number: the same number for several days or longer. Pick a rental if the number stays on your profile.

Two honest limits: a code is never guaranteed, because OfferUp decides whether to send it; and a number may have been used on OfferUp before you, so start a fresh account rather than trying to recover an old one.

Keep your account after you get in

  • Verify your email too.
  • Meet in public places and use in-app payments where offered.
  • Update your number before changing it.
  • Never share a code with a buyer. Buyers asking for a code are running a scam.
