Walmart code not arriving? Check the number on your account, wait a minute, then have the code sent by email instead. 7 fixes for the Walmart app and site.
Walmart sends one-time codes to sign in without a password, to confirm a new device, and for 2-step verification. The code goes to the phone number or email saved on your Walmart account, so most problems come from an old number or blocked texts.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Enter the code we sent" and nothing arrives | Slow delivery, filtered texts, or an old number on the account. | Wait a minute, check spam, then choose to get the code by email. |
| "Too many attempts. Try again later." | Too many codes requested or wrong codes entered. | Wait an hour or two, then try once. |
| "That code didn't work" | Old or mistyped code. | Use only the newest code. |
| "We couldn't verify your phone number" | Walmart can't send to that number or doesn't accept the line type. | Use a regular mobile number, or verify by email. |
Walmart lets many customers sign in with a one-time code instead of a password. It is quick when texts arrive, but if they don't you are stuck at the code screen. If you have a password on the account, choose to sign in with it; if you don't, use the "Forgot password" link to set one through your email, so you always have a second way in.
Shopping on a computer and on the app? Each new browser or phone can ask for its own code the first time. Keep "remember me" or "keep me signed in" on for your own devices so Walmart asks less often.
Travelling? Texts to your home number need roaming that allows incoming SMS. Email codes work anywhere you have internet, so choose email while you are abroad.
Walmart may also text order updates and pickup check-in links to the number on your account. If those arrive but sign-in codes don't, your number is fine and the problem is the code limit or a filter, so wait and use email for the code.
If you share a Walmart account with family, the code goes to whichever number is saved on it. Agree on one number, or give each person their own account.
If your own number never gets Walmart's texts, a different mobile number can help, but remember Walmart will send future codes to it too.
In that case a non-VoIP number is the practical fix. These are real mobile-carrier numbers, which is what Walmart expects. On SMS Pin Verify you can pick a USA number for Walmart and the code appears on screen in your account:
Two honest limits: a code is never guaranteed, because Walmart decides whether to send it; and a number may have been used on Walmart before you, so start a fresh account rather than trying to recover an old one.
Yes, in most cases you can choose email on the code screen.
You are probably entering an older code. Only the newest code is valid.
Usually an hour or two. Wait it out before trying again.
Sign in, open Account, then Account settings, and edit the phone number.
