Netflix code not arriving? The code goes to the account owner's email or phone, not always yours. Check both, then ask again. 7 fixes.
Netflix sends codes in two situations: a sign-in code when you choose to log in without a password, and a household code when Netflix thinks a TV or device is outside the account's household. Both go to the email address or phone number on the account, which is often the account owner, not the person holding the remote.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Enter the code we sent" and nothing arrives | The code went to the account's email or phone, which may not be yours. | Check the account email, or ask the account owner. |
| "Your device isn't part of the Netflix Household" | Netflix thinks this device is outside the main household. | Send a code to the account owner, or set the main household from a TV at home. |
| "This code has expired" | More than 15 minutes passed. | Request a new code and enter it straight away. |
| No phone option shown | There is no phone number on the account. | Use the email option or sign in with the password. |
| Too many requests | Netflix paused codes for a while. | Wait, then try once. |
The household check is not a sign-up step. It appears when Netflix thinks a device is used away from the account's main home. The code always goes to the owner, so a different phone number does not help; updating the household or adding an extra member does.
Netflix does not need a phone number to create an account; email and a payment method are enough.
If you want Netflix sign-in codes by text on a number you control, you can add a mobile number to your own account.
In that case a non-VoIP number is the practical fix. These are real mobile-carrier numbers, which is what Netflix expects. On SMS Pin Verify you can pick a USA number for Netflix and the code appears on screen in your account:
Two honest limits: a code is never guaranteed, because Netflix decides whether to send it; and a number may have been used on Netflix before you, so start a fresh account rather than trying to recover an old one. A number does not help with household codes on someone else's account; those always go to the owner.
It usually went to the account owner's email or phone, or to spam.
15 minutes. Request a new one when you are ready.
Yes, choose the password option on the sign-in screen.
No. An email address is enough; a phone number is an optional second way to get codes.
