Discord code not arriving? Discord doesn't accept VoIP numbers, and a number can be on one account only. Check those, then try these 8 fixes.
Discord asks for a phone number when a server requires a verified phone, after a security check, or when you add SMS as a backup for two-factor login. Here is why the 6-digit code doesn't show up and what to do.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Code screen, nothing arrives | Slow delivery, filtered texts or a number Discord won't text. | Wait a minute, check spam, then resend once. |
| "You are being rate limited" | Too many requests in a short time. | Stop for an hour or more before trying again. |
| Number already in use | Another Discord account has verified this number. | Remove the number from the other account first. |
| Invalid phone number | Wrong format or a type of number Discord doesn't accept. | Check the country code; use a regular mobile number. |
| Server says "verify your phone" | The server requires a verified phone on your account. | Add it under User Settings → My Account → Phone Number. |
Server owners can set a verification level that requires members to have a verified phone on their Discord account. It is an anti-spam setting: the server never sees your number. Once your account has a verified phone, every server with that rule lets you in.
If you only want SMS as a backup for two-factor login, set up an authenticator app first (User Settings → My Account → Enable Authenticator App); Discord adds SMS backup after that. Save your backup codes when Discord shows them.
Discord refuses most free and VoIP numbers, so a real mobile-carrier number is the practical fix if your own number is already on another account or isn't accepted.
In that case a non-VoIP number is the practical fix. These are real mobile-carrier numbers, which is what Discord expects. On SMS Pin Verify you can pick a USA number for Discord and the code appears on screen in your account:
Two honest limits: a code is never guaranteed, because Discord decides whether to send it; and a number may have been used on Discord before you, so start a fresh account rather than trying to recover an old one.
Often because the number is a VoIP number, it is already on another account, or you are rate limited.
No, Discord does not support VoIP numbers for phone verification.
No. A number can be verified on one account at a time.
Usually from minutes to a few hours. Wait it out before trying again.
