Uber code not arriving? Check the number and country code, ask for the code again once, or get it on WhatsApp or by email if offered. 8 fixes.
Uber signs you in with your phone number and a short code sent by text. In some countries it can also send the code on WhatsApp, and you can sign in with email instead. Riders and drivers use the same kind of code. Here is how to get it.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Code screen, nothing arrives | Slow delivery, filtered texts or a wrong country code. | Wait, check spam, then tap "I haven't received a code" for other options. |
| Code on WhatsApp instead of SMS | Uber chose WhatsApp for your country. | Open WhatsApp and look for the message from Uber. |
| Too many attempts | Uber paused codes for this number. | Wait a few hours before trying again. |
| Number already in use | Another Uber account uses that number. | Sign in to that account, or change its number first. |
| Wrong code | Old or mistyped code. | Use the newest code only. |
Uber often asks for a code when you open the app in a new country. If your home number can't receive texts while roaming, choose WhatsApp or email if offered, or sign in on Wi-Fi before you leave and stay signed in.
Drivers: the Uber Driver account is tied to your identity and documents. Use your own number for it.
For a rider account, if your number never receives Uber's code, another mobile number can.
In that case a non-VoIP number is the practical fix. These are real mobile-carrier numbers, which is what Uber expects. On SMS Pin Verify you can pick a USA number for Uber and the code appears on screen in your account:
Two honest limits: a code is never guaranteed, because Uber decides whether to send it; and a number may have been used on Uber before you, so start a fresh account rather than trying to recover an old one.
Wrong country code, filtered texts, or too many attempts are the usual causes.
In some countries, yes; choose it on the code screen if it is offered.
Yes, you can sign in with your email address and receive the code there.
For rider accounts, non-VoIP mobile numbers usually do.
