Lyft Verification Code Not Received? 7 Fixes That Work

Posted on 31/10/26 08:45 pm

Lyft code not arriving? Check the number, ask again once, or have Lyft call you with the code if offered. 7 fixes for riders and drivers.

Lyft signs you in with your phone number and a code sent by text. On a new phone, after reinstalling, or when you change your number, it asks again. Here is what to do when the code doesn't show.

Check these first (30 seconds)

  • A US or Canadian mobile number. Lyft operates in the US and Canada and expects a mobile number from there.
  • Spam and filtered texts. Check the spam or "unknown senders" folder.
  • Call option. Lyft may offer to call you with the code instead.
  • The wait. Give it a minute before asking again.

What Lyft's message means

What you seeWhat it meansWhat to do
Code screen, nothing arrivesSlow delivery, filtered texts or a wrong number.Wait, check spam, then resend once or choose a call.
Too many attemptsCodes paused after many requests.Wait a few hours.
Number already in useAnother Lyft account uses that number.Sign in to that account, or contact Lyft support.
Wrong codeOld or mistyped code.Use the newest code only.

7 fixes, in order

  1. Check the number. Enter the 10-digit mobile number without +1 or spaces.
  2. Resend once or choose a call. Use the resend or call option on the code screen.
  3. Turn off SMS filters and restart. Pause blockers and check signal.
  4. Update the Lyft app. Install the latest Lyft or Lyft Driver app.
  5. Use email to recover. If your number changed, Lyft may let you confirm with your email address.
  6. Wait out a limit. After "too many attempts", wait a few hours.
  7. Contact Lyft support. Use Help on lyft.com if the number is lost or in use.

Changed your phone number?

If you get a new number, update it in the Lyft app (Account → Personal information) while you can still sign in. If you are already locked out, sign in with the new number and Lyft may ask you to confirm with the email on your account to move it over.

Drivers: your Lyft Driver account is tied to your identity, vehicle and payouts. Use your own number.

When your own number just won't work

For a rider account, if texts from Lyft never reach your number, another US mobile number can.

In that case a non-VoIP number is the practical fix. These are real mobile-carrier numbers, which is what Lyft expects. On SMS Pin Verify you can pick a USA number for Lyft and the code appears on screen in your account:

  • One-time number: held for you for 15 minutes to receive one code. If no code arrives, you are not charged. Good for a single sign-up.
  • Rental number: the same number for several days or longer. Pick this if the number will stay on your account, because drivers contact you through it and Lyft sends a code for new devices.

Two honest limits: a code is never guaranteed, because Lyft decides whether to send it; and a number may have been used on Lyft before you, so start a fresh account rather than trying to recover an old one.

Keep your account after you get in

  • Keep your email current so you can move the account to a new number.
  • Keep your number current so drivers can reach you.
  • Review payment methods now and then.
  • Never share a Lyft code. Lyft support won't ask for it.
